Sleep & Rest for Busy People: Rest Is Maintenance, Not a Reward
Sep 13, 2026Thank you for joining us for Sleep & Rest for Busy People!
A huge thank you to everyone who spent their Sunday afternoon with me at HealthGirl Studio for our Sleep & Rest for Busy People Workshop.
We talked about why sleep can sometimes feel so difficult, some of the everyday things that can support better sleep, and something that's easy to overlook:
Sleep and rest aren't quite the same thing—and sometimes more sleep isn't the only thing we're missing.
What kind of tired are you?
One of the questions we explored was:
“What kind of tired am I?”
Sometimes we're physically tired and need sleep, stillness or gentle movement.
Sometimes we're mentally tired and need fewer decisions, some quiet or a chance to breathe.
We might be emotionally or socially tired and need support, boundaries, connection or some time with fewer demands.
And sometimes we're overstimulated and need less input—or understimulated and actually need fun, creativity, nature or play.
The answer won't necessarily be the same every day.
Better sleep doesn't have to mean changing everything
We also looked at small ways to support sleep throughout the day, evening and night—from getting some morning/outdoor light and moving your body to lowering stimulation in the evening and creating a comfortable sleep environment.
But nobody left with instructions to completely overhaul their life tonight. 😂
Instead, everyone had the opportunity to choose ONE sleep experiment and think about one restorative habit they could realistically practise.
Because knowing what might help is one thing.
Finding something that actually fits into your life is another.
Rest is maintenance, not a reward.
This was one of the biggest messages I wanted everyone to take home.
You don't have to finish everything first.
You don't have to be productive enough.
And you don't have to earn the right to rest.
Small changes count.
Thank you to everyone who came, shared, asked questions and spent some of your Sunday afternoon learning with me. I hope you left with at least one idea that makes sleep or rest feel a little more achievable in your actual life.
And hopefully you all get some good sleep tonight. 😉
Cheers,
Meg
