Too often, we approach wellness with a mindset of deprivation—cutting out everything we love. This leads to frustration, and the allure of what we've restricted becomes irresistible. Instead, let's work with our brains, adding in enjoyable and healthy habits before gradually letting go of less-healthy ones.

One habit we often want to be rid of is late-night snacking. Are you craving a bag of chips every night? You don’t have to cut them out right away. Instead, before you reach for them, enjoy a protein shake or a piece of fruit with a refreshing glass of water. Then, if you’re still craving the chips, go ahead and have a bowl of chips. This way, you satisfy your craving without feeling deprived. Over time, you can gradually increase the healthier options and reduce the less-healthy ones.

Another habit we feel we need to change is vegging out in front of the television every night, lying on the couch instead of exercising. It’s ok to love your evening TV ritual, just try adding movement to it! Stretch on the floor or indulge in a simple home workout while catching your favourite shows. You're still relishing your downtime while weaving in a healthy habit. The key is to make wellness an enjoyable part of your life.

The key is to transform mundane tasks into moments of joy. Sip tea while taking your daily vitamins or medications. Pair a brisk walk with your favourite podcast. By blending enjoyment with healthy habits, you create a positive association that makes wellness feel like a rewarding choice.

Remember, building habits is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the bumps, twists, and turns. Allow imperfection on your path; it's a part of the learning process. Understand that change takes time, and the lessons learned along the way are as crucial as reaching the destination.
