HealthRex: Narrow Squats with Yoga Blocks and Chairs
Jul 24, 2026Think narrow squats aren't for you?
Think again.
This week's HealthRex video shares two simple ways to make narrow squats feel more comfortable and more accessible—using either a chair or a yoga block.
🪑 Option 1: Use a chair for support
Holding onto the back of a sturdy chair can give you extra balance while you build strength and confidence.
It's a great option if you're returning to exercise, feel unsteady, or simply prefer having something nearby for support.
🟪 Option 2: Use a yoga block
A yoga block gives you a target to squat toward—but here's the important part:
You get to decide where the block goes.
Some instructors may suggest placing it between your knees, but that's only one option.
Move the block to whatever height feels comfortable for your body.
Some people may use it between the calves.
Maybe between the thighs.
Others may not need one at all.
Every one of those choices is valid.
Our bodies are wonderfully different. Previous injuries, joint replacements, arthritis, balance, flexibility, body proportions and countless other factors all influence how we move.
That's why we don't compare our squat to someone else's.
We find the version that works for us.
Because at HealthGirl...
We don't force your body into the movement—we fit the movement to your body.
Whether you choose the chair, the block, or neither, the goal is the same:
Move with confidence.
Practice consistently.
Celebrate progress.
